Short answer: pick an open-air booth if you want printed keepsakes and the highest guest throughput ($650-$1,400), an enclosed booth if you want privacy and classic strips in a smaller footprint ($700-$1,400), and a 360 video booth if you want shareable video and a crowd-drawing centerpiece ($900-$1,600).

Open-air: the default for most events

A camera and light on a stand facing a backdrop, with no walls. Big groups fit in one shot, the setup photographs well as part of your decor, and the line moves faster than any other booth type. It is the right answer for the large majority of weddings, corporate parties and milestone celebrations - see our wedding guide and corporate guide for event-specific detail.

Trade-off: no privacy. Guests are performing in front of the room, which most people enjoy and a few do not.

Enclosed: privacy and the classic feel

A curtained or panelled booth guests step inside. The privacy changes behavior - people are sillier when nobody is watching, and the strips show it. It also fits a tighter footprint, which helps in smaller function rooms and restaurants.

Trade-off: smaller groups and a slower line. At a 250-guest wedding an enclosed booth can leave people waiting.

360: the one people film

A camera orbits guests on a raised platform to produce short slow-motion clips sent straight to phones. It pulls a crowd whether or not they are using it, and it produces the content younger guests actually post. Full detail in our 360 photo booth guide.

Trade-offs: no prints, the lowest throughput of the three, and the strictest space requirement - 10 x 10 ft with a 9 ft ceiling and a level floor.

How to choose in 30 seconds

  • 200+ guests and you want everyone through it? Open-air.
  • Keepsake matters most - guest book, fridge photo? Open-air or enclosed.
  • Tight function room or restaurant? Enclosed.
  • Teen or young-adult crowd, social content is the goal? 360.
  • Brand activation or trade show? 360 for buzz, open-air for lead capture volume - our trade show guide covers both.
  • Can afford both? Open-air during dinner and cocktail hour, 360 once dancing starts.

What does not change between them

Whichever booth you choose, the package should include delivery, setup, a professional attendant for the whole event, custom templates, unlimited sessions and a digital gallery afterwards. If a quote itemizes those, the base price is not comparable - our pricing guide explains how to check.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between an open-air and an enclosed photo booth?

An open-air booth is a camera and light facing a backdrop with no walls, so groups of 8-10 fit and the line moves fast. An enclosed booth is a curtained structure guests step inside, which gives privacy and a classic strip feel but limits groups to 2-4 and slows throughput.

Which photo booth type is best for a wedding?

Open-air suits most weddings because it handles big groups, moves quickly through 150-250 guests and doubles as decor. Couples who want privacy and a vintage feel choose enclosed, and many add a 360 booth for the dance-floor hours.

Is a 360 booth more expensive than a regular photo booth?

Yes. A 360 video booth runs about $900-$1,600 for 3-4 hours versus $650-$1,400 for an open-air booth, because it needs more equipment, more space and a dedicated operator throughout the event.

Which booth handles the most guests per hour?

Open-air, at roughly 80-120 guests per hour. Enclosed booths handle 50-80 and 360 booths 40-60, since each group uses the platform alone.

Can we have more than one booth at our event?

Yes, and it is common at larger weddings and corporate parties: an open-air booth during cocktail hour and dinner for prints, and a 360 booth once dancing starts for video.
